Mityana Municipality MP, Hon. Francis Zaake risks death or paralysis if he does not receive necessary medical attention in India.
Zaake was this morning blocked by security agents at the airport from leaving the country for India where he was to receive medical attention according to family.
Government says he is a wanted criminal who is capable of escaping and not returning home if allowed leaving the country. In the aftermath of the unfortunate events in Arua on August 13th, president Museveni in a letter narrated that Zaake had disappeared from police custody and was a wanted man.
While many thought this was a joke, it was confirmed this morning when the MP arrived at Entebbe International Airport ready to fly to India for treatment, only to be asked by security to present a letter from the Criminal Investigations Department, CID.
Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo clarified this afternoon that Zaake is a suspect on the run who cannot be allowed to leave the country.
“Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake is a suspect on the run who disappeared from lawful police custody in Arua and should be arrested at the earliest. He could be trying to escape from justice” Opondo wrote.
According to family, Zaake who spent over two weeks at Lubaga hospital is nursing spinal, back and neck injuries and if he does not see a specialist at the earliest, he risks paralysis.
